PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency

The Palm Beach Atlantic University (PBA) PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program provides training in an independent community pharmacy. Atlantis Pharmacy is a member of Community Pharmacy Enhanced Service Network (CPESN) Florida and offers enhanced patient care services. This faith-based program prepares pharmacists as servant leaders within the profession and provides practitioners with unique opportunities and experiences in community and ambulatory care settings and allows the resident to participate in academic teaching.

Our PGY1 Community-based Pharmacy Residency Program provides residents with the unique opportunity to strengthen their patient care skills in a community pharmacy setting as well as ambulatory care settings. Emphasis within the program is placed on providing pharmacist practitioners with opportunities and experiences to:

  • Prepare individuals for direct patient care positions
  • Cultivate leaders capable of medication therapy management (MTM) development that deliver advanced services to optimize patient care
  • Serve as role models in the advancement of community-based practice
  • Prepare individuals for academia or further PGY2 training in a focused area of practice

Practice Sites

The residency program activities and experiences are conducted a majority of the time at Atlantis Pharmacy, an independent community pharmacy located 1 block north of JFK Medical Center. The mission of Atlantis Pharmacy is to exceed the expectations of patients and providers with the highest quality of services and products and does so by working collaboratively with health care professionals to provide optimal pharmaceutical care to all patients. Aligning with this mission, the pharmacy is a participant of the Flip the Pharmacy Initiative sponsored by The Community Pharmacy Foundation. The staff at the pharmacy consists of 3 full time pharmacist, 1 office manager, 3 pharmacy technicians, 1 operations manager, and 1 University-supported pharmacist. Services the pharmacy provides include: compounding, Medicine-On-Time adherence packaging, immunizations, various disease state specific services such as INR monitoring and cholesterol screening.
